Words and Phrases I've Realized I Say Too Often
"Totally."
example: "Totally, dude. Dude, I would never ever say "hella." It's totally common. Like, common in the bad way. Totally."
"That said,..."
example: "Oh yeah, I used to go to raves all the time, but I stopped going back in the late 90's. That said, I do like to go out 'n party now and then."
"pedantic"
example: "Well, he's a pedantic turd and why anyone would let anything he said get to you is totally beyond me. That said, he's a charmer." Which brings me to another one:
"...is beyond me."
example: see example for "pendantic." Nothing is beyond me...if I believe.

Totally agree. One of my pet peeves actually, besides the overuse of "actually" is "having said that"/"that having been said"/"that said" etc. I believe this started with the talking heads on Sunday morning TV. Since they are not too bright and rarely have anything of value to say, they needed a phrase that brought self-importance upon the speaker. Eventually it spread like a cancer into common use and ended up on the lips of the local six-o'clock newscaster. Now, I can see using "having said that" as a convenient/lazy segway - as in "now that I have gotten past the intro crap, this is what I really have to say". Strangely, although "that having been said" means pretty much the same thing, it annoys me. I want to say "of course thats been said you stupid fuck, you just said it, now what's your point?". Oh well. Add to my list of overused word/phrase-of-the-month the following: "paradigm shift"/"sea change", "at the end of the day" and "in the -blank- space" as in "the aftermarket dildo space". People who persist in using these phrases after they are no longer in fashion risk hoping to "see change" on the sidewalk as they go to stock the "shelf space" at Safeway and wish to still have a job "at the end of the day". Actually I once had a phone conversation with a geek who began EVERY sentence with the word "actually". Try it sometime for fun.
