From the vault: Laurie Anderson BART Ad
I've been going through some of my audio tracks in order to prepare them for more space-efficient online archiving and in doing so have come upon some of the more goofy tidbits in my project folder, including this - the Laurie Anderson BART Ad.
Now, I'll just say right out that Laurie Anderson has never done an ad for BART (the Bay Area Rapid Transit). This whole thing came about one summer afternoon in 98 or so, as I was reading an article about Laurie Anderson's marriage to Lou Reed. While I was reading, the AM News-Talk station I had on at the time, KCBS in San Francisco, was running a fluff news piece about how BART was considering radio spots that would feature the voices of local celebrities (Robin Williams, Chris Isaak, er - Hammer). The light of parody flickered on and within fifteen minutes or so I had a 1 minute radio spot for BART by "Laurie Anderson."
Now, unless you know Laurie Anderson's work - paricularly United States Live, this will mean absolutely nothing. :-)

"While driving through the heart of Silicon Valley, after driving under three flyover viaducts, I noticed a gleaming, silver train gliding on air. I turned on the radio to a news-talk station, and I heard a voice. The voice said, "Ride BART."
