NYDT Blue

It was an angsty weekend, and when I get angsty I usually wind up making something creative. Funny how that works.

Anyway, I decided to redo my desktop and make it much nicer but without any kind of window manager like Stardock or WindowBlinds or what have you. Click the image below to see it in all its 1600x1200 glory.

Ain't she purty? :-) It's basically a big web page on Active Desktop, with rss feeds and search boxes for OneLook.com and Google. That's three photos of Manhattan I took from Brooklyn Heights and then put together in Photoshop and rendered as a PNG. It's actually only the lights...most of the black is gone so that some of the blue stars shine through the alpha channel transparency.

What? PNG on the Active Desktop? Yeah, so I found this nifty Javascript that enables png in IE without the transparent gif hassle of the "offical" workaround. Download it here.

The player at the bottom is Winamp with the ClipUp101 skin, and up at the top left is Trillian with the TransDark skin (with a custom background and a hacked "nitelite" version of my logo).

I changed the folder icons to silver spheres with MicroAngelo OnDisplay, which allows you to set the default folder image for both open and closed. When the folder's open, the icon turns blue. :-)

It's a quality of life thing, ya know?
